Trump Criticizes Nancy Pelosi “Late Late Show” Spot with new “Let Them Eat Ice Cream” Ad

A new Donald Trump advertisement entitled “Let Them Eat Ice Cream” draws comparisons between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Marie Antoinette.
The comparison, and new nickname (Nancy Antoinette) is derived from a spot on the Late Late Show with James Corbin where Nancy Pelosi showed off her ice cream supply. Pelosi appears in a well-furnished kitchen displaying her supply of high-end ice cream.
Mary Antoinette, the last Queen of France before the French Revolution is most famous for the phrase “Let them eat cake!”, a phrase she uttered as she learned that her citizens had no bread to eat (though historians dispute the truth to that claim). The phrase became the iconic symbol for out-of-touch leaders who are seemingly unable to relate to the plight of their citizens.
In “Let Them Eat Ice Cream”, Speaker Pelosi’s refrigerator and freezer are shown stocked with high-end ice cream in contrast to other images showing Americans standing in line at food banks and praying. Trump hopes to cast Pelosi as “out of touch” and ignorant of Americans’ suffering; similar to Marie Antoinette and her citizens’ bread plight.
What do you think? Does Pelosi’s appearance on the Late Late Show demonstrate an out-of-touch Speaker of the House? Is it fair to be critical of Pelosi enjoying ice cream in her home? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
