The Biden campaign has released a new advertisement entitled “The Buck Stops Here” charging President Trump with shifting blame and refusing to take responsibility for the Coronavirus outbreak in the United States.

The new ad prominently features the phrase “The Buck Stops Here” which was famously displayed on a desk sign by President Harry Truman during his presidency and refers to the idea that the President of the United States must ultimately take responsibility for all major decisions and actions. Truman is quoted as saying “The President–whoever he is–has to decide. He can’t pass the buck to anybody. No one else can do the deciding for him. That’s his job.”

The advertisement highlights famous Democratic presidents who have served in times of crisis including Franklin D Roosevelt, John F Kennedy, and Barack Obama, and asserts that when the nation faced difficult situations, those particular presidents responded appropriately. The advertisement goes on to highlight various quotes by President Trump that appear to shift responsibility to state governors.
